Has your institution perfected student communications? … Neither have we, but we think we have a game changer.

The University of Waterloo recently launched a customizable, responsive student portal: an aggregator of just-in-time information for current students to reduce the volume of email students receive, improve student communications, and generally make their lives easier.

Creating the student portal in-house allowed us to:

  1. Create a customizable experience for each user
  2. Concentrate on user-focused content
  3. Access extensive campus content through an open data API
  4. Provide an opportunity for students to create their own portal content via a student development environment

We’ll talk about how we addressed these approaches, leveraging student and campus partner feedback throughout the whole process. We’ll also provide ideas for ways to ground your campus communication projects in student research and consultation.
