How do you make the most of a three-day visit to Saskatoon in the summer? There is so much to explore, but I’ll give you a few ideas to start with.

In a hurry? View the map with all of these locations marked.

What to do?

You’re going to be busy attending the best digital higher education conference in Canada. If you arrive on Sunday or stay late on Tuesday, you can still get a taste of Saskatchewan.

Wanuskewin Heritage Park

Located just outside the city, this interpretive centre, gallery, and gathering place has been nominated as a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site. Archaeological digs have unearthed continuous habitation that pre-dates the pyramids. Walk along the trails to appreciate our natural environment and visit the centre to learn about our history.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park is open 9-4:30 every day. If you arrive early on Sunday this is where you can appreciate the prairies; not with views of skyscrapers, but of sweetgrass and sage.

Meewasin Valley

Not up for a trip outside of Saskatoon, but still want to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine? Take a walk though the Meewasin River Valley. In a 1/2 hour you can walk from the campus past the historic Delta Hotel Bessborough to our river landing. Enjoy ice cream, the gallery and the view. When you’re ready, cross a bridge to the Broadway district for supper or a drink before cabbing back to the university.

Remai Modern

Opened in 2017, the Remai Modern is a world class contemporary and modern art gallery nestled on the banks of the South Sasatchewan River. Enjoy views of the city while appreciating art both local and global.
Remai Modern is open until 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, a perfect finish to a visit to Saskatoon before heading back home.

What to eat?

So many options. Here are three areas of the city you might explore alongside a few of my favourite destinations.

Broadway District

So named because the street was broad enough for a team of horses to do a U-turn, Broadway Avenue remains a cultural and commercial destination in Saskatoon. Promenade down the street, check out the local shops before supper.

Riversdale

Home to the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market, Riversdale is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Saskatoon. 20th Street is lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes.

Downtown

An open and inviting downtown that is easily walkable from the campus. Visit the sidewalk sale along 2nd Avenue on Sunday before hitting up one of our award winning restaurants. The three below were co-founded by Canada’s top chef Dale Mackay and offer modern dining experiences.
